What is it about Liverpool that they can not hold on to a center forward for very long?
Through the years Liverpool have always produced a special number of attacking players, Michael Owen, Djibril Cisse and Fernando Torres just to mention the ones that stand out.
Why are Liverpool losing all their good players to the "bigger" clubs? Putting aside their lack of involvement in the Champions and their terrible positions in the league.Michael Owen,a player who looked like a Liverpool legend and played like one with 118 goals in 216 appearances in the Premier League BAM "OK Im going to Real Madrid" Liverpool fans were clearly gutted and Owen was dead to them. But if you put aside the Center Forwards for a moment take a look at these players X.Alonso,Y.Benayoun,R.Meireles, Mr work-a-holic D.Kuyt,S.Hyypia and J.Mascherano the level and quality that those players brought to Liverpool was staggering.
But probably the biggest one and the most obvious was Fernando Torres, Arriving from Athletico Madrid young Fernando set the Premier League alight with his bursting pace and a crazy eye for goal. Netting 81 goals, for me this was Liverpool's best buy,but lack of Champions League football and no significant trophies eventually led to the Spaniards departure for 50 million pounds to rivals Chelsea. If you think about, the fans really cant blame these players for leaving.
My thought is that, how would Liverpool be now if they had kept those players and added players like Suarez,Downing,Allen etc. That sounds like title winners to me.
Who knows how long Carroll and Suarez or possibly Steven Gerrard will stay in Liverpool. If I was a Liverpool fan I'd be pretty worried as to where the clubs ambition is(maybe the sacking of Rafa Benitez was a mistake?) you tell me.
