General

Fanalistas is an independent sports site launched in 2012 by a group of lifelong sports fans who were not satisfied by mainstream media coverage of their favourite teams so they decided to launch a site to bring together the best writing and opinions of amateur sports bloggers, sports journalists and fans.

Three lifelong sports fanatics who saw that there were many excellent independent sports bloggers on the Internet and knew that there were many fans who have unparalleled knowledge and passionate opinions. They looked for a way to provide a platform where those talents could be combined to provide a website on sport capable of attracting a mainstream audience and Fanalistas was born.

Article Writing

Anyone can write articles on Fanalistas. There are no requirements other than having an interesting story or passionate opinion that you'd like to share.

Yes there are. While Fanalistas enables you to express your opinions, allegiances, and perspectives within the realm of sport you must also must follow specific rules

A Story is a normal long form article. It can be an opinion piece, a match or tournament preview or report, a piece of breaking news or a transfer rumour. To write a Story, login, click on the "Write an Article" button, and then click on the "Story" link.

A Top 5 is an article in a slideshow format. It's called a Top 5, because...you guessed it, it's a list of ranking of 5 events, athletes, teams or whatever you choose to come up with. To write a Top 5, login, click on the "Write an Article" button, and then click on the "Top 5" link.

To add pictures to your Story or Top 5, first choose "Picture" under the appropriate "Upload a Picture or Video" section of your Story or Top 5. You will then expose the "Upload a Picture" form where you'll be able to choose between two ways of adding photos to your Story or Top 5: uploading a picture from your computer or uploading a picture from the internet.

Uploading a Picture from your Computer
Click on the "Upload" link to select this option. Then click on "Choose File" and select the image that you want to upload from your computer. Next click on "Transfer".

Uploading a Picture from the Internet
Click on the "Remote URL" link to select this option. Search the internet for a picture that you would like to upload - there is a Google Images Search box to the right of the form to help you do this. Once you have found an image you like, right click on that image, and select "View Image" or "Copy Image URL". If you selected "View Image" copy the URL from the browser window in which the image appears, and paste it into the picture upload form. If you selected "Copy Image URL", simply paste the URL into the picture upload form. Then press "Transfer".

As a general rule, try to select pictures with a width of at least 500 pixels. Also, please make sure that any images you upload are in accordance with our Terms of Use.

To add videos to your Story or Top 5, first choose "Video" under the appropriate "Upload a Picture or Video" section of your Story or Top 5. You will then expose the "Upload a Video" form. Currently you can upload videos from YouTube or Vimeo. Search YouTube or Vimeo for an appropriate video. There is a YouTube search form on the right hand side of the form. Once you have found the video you would like to add, copy the URL from YouTube or Vimeo and paste it into the "Upload a Video" form.

Currently we do not pay writers for their work. Our aim is to provide Fanalistas writers with the greatest possible exposure for their work, through increasing our traffic and entering into partnerships with other sites to give your work even greater exposure and help those that want to launch a career in sports media. It is possible that we will offer our writers financial compensation in the future.

As long as it needs to be—there are no word minimums or limits. As a guide the best Fanalistas Stories are typically 500-800 words long and the best Top 5s typically contain 75-150 words per slide.

Once your article is published it becomes a part of Fanalistas. The article is automatically placed in an appropriate section of the site and it will appear in the "Recent Articles" section of your profile page. Other members of the community will now be able to read, and comment on your article. The Editorial team may edit certain aspects of your article, to correct typographical or grammatical errors or in some cases edit the Title to make it more friendly to search engines.

Placement of articles on Fanalistas is determined by a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, the timeliness of the topic, the reputation of the writer, and the quality of the article as determined by our Community.

Tagging an article with a league, team, or player does not automatically guarantee that it will be featured prominently on the page you desire. The competition for league pages in particular is quite fierce, and as such only the work that the Community deems most valuable will appear.

If you do not see your article featured on the page that you tagged it with, you can find it in the archives of that section. You can view the archives by clicking the "archives" link located in sub menu bar at the top of any page, apart from the front page.

Here are a few tips:
  • Post your articles to your Facebook Profile Page and/or Twitter Account.
  • Consistently produce timely, accurate, engaging and comprehensive content.
  • Engage in conversation, debate, and discussion with other members of Fanalistas.

The category you select should be the most appropriate for your article. For example if your article is about football in general and does not focus on any particular team or competition, you can just select "Football" from the first drop down menu which appears. If your story is about the Premier League in general and does not focus on any team, you should select "Football" from the first menu and then "Premier League" from the second menu that appears.

If your story is about more than one team or competition, select the broadest possible category. You can then ensure that the story also appears on the pages of the competitions or teams it mentions by the appropriate use of tags.

On the "Create Story" or "Create Top 5" page, in the "Tags" field start typing the name of the tag you wish to attach to your article. If it exists among available tags, it will appear in the dropdown list below as you start to type. Select the appropriate tag from the list. If you wish to select more than one tag, just repeat this process. You can remove a tag by clicking on the "X" next to the name of the tag you wish to delete.

For players and teams, you should only assign tags when they are directly relevant to the subject matter of the article. For instance, if your article is about Andy Murray but briefly mentions a win against Roger Federer, you should add the "Andy Murray" tag but not the "Roger Federer" tag.

You can add your blog to Fanalistas. If you are interested in doing so, please email us at imports@fanalistas.com. Bare in mind that we may edit the titles and some of the text of your blog articles, so as to make them more friendly to search engines and attract more readers. We may also add pictures or videos. Also bare in mind that articles from your blog will not count towards your "Top Writers" ranking. Only original articles posted on Fanalistas count towards that.

Fanalistas' Top Writer rankings are based on the number of reads an author has received on articles published under a specific tag (e.g. Golf, Football, West Ham,) within the current month. To be eligible for Top Writer status, an author must have (a) logged in to Fanalistas and (b) posted a comment within the last two weeks. Reads received on articles imported from blogs do not boost an author's Top Writer ranking; only articles published exclusively on Fanalistas count towards Top Writer status.
